Callington Foodbank has been serving our community since October 2011, in that time we have been able to provide over 5,000 emergency food parcels, distributing in excess of 146,000 kg /160 tons of donated food. This has only been possible because of the generosity of local people supporting local people, as well as the generosity of our fantastic volunteers without whom we simply would not have been able to make the difference that we have. Thank You
MORE THAN FOOD
However since November 2022 In an effort to reduce the need for food parcels, we have trialled a “Financial Inclusion Service” in partnership with Citizens Advice Cornwall and free to those in need. Aimed at helping local people maximise income as well as providing support with a wide range of other issues such as homelessness, fuel poverty, debt and other underlying contributory factors which often lead to needing a foodbank parcel.
We have discovered that over 80% of those that have engaged with us were not receiving all of the benefits or other support that they should have been. This has resulted in ensuring that many local households have been placed in a stronger financial position, including those in work and retired.
Since launching this service we have been able to secure in excess of £500,000 of additional income or other financial support for local families, which has resulted in many no longer needing food parcels at all.
Financial inclusion though is equally about people’s sense of wellbeing and their ability to cope with the challenges that they face in life. The project as a whole has supported many other people in many other ways, providing a warm safe space where they can find a little help and support along life’s journey.

This project has been fully seed funded by a grant from Trussell (formerly Trussell Trust) this funding expires in March 2026 and having evidenced it’s significant benefit to our community we are keen to ensure that this work can continue for as long as possible.
We have produced our case for support document which provides greater detail of what has been achieved to date including measurable outcomes and level of funding required.
